Components of blood

Date: 11th Nov 2024 @ 3:14pm

Today we were learning about the composition of blood in the Kestrels class! (linked to our Science topic, Circulation!) 🫀🫁 🩸

Three main parts of the components of blood are plasma, which is a liquid and carries nutrients, water and sugar. There are also two others; white and red blood cells. Red cells carry oxygen around the body, and white cells defend against viruses etc.

We used cups and wooden stirrers filled with all mentioned above (which looked like blood!)  and saw what it may look like inside your blood vessels! This consisted of red-coloured Cheerios and white/light pink marshmallows, dyed water/apple juice for plasma and small multi coloured sprinkles to make the representation.

So, it's very easy, fun and simple to make these, so you could try yourself!
Thanks, Bear and Lawrence (Y5 and Y6)
