Global Week in the Kestrels Class
Date: 6th Mar 2017 @ 10:25am
We have got a very exciting week ahead as we learn more about the world around us and how we fit in to this.
Today, we have been learning about Fairtrade. We had a visit from Neil Sledge, Global Education Officer, who discussed how fairtrade products have led to farmers and workers receiving a fair price for their goods. This has enabled businesses to grow and families and communities to thrive. We were surprised to hear that workers in Pakistan even produce a fair trade football.

Tuesday's focus was around understanding democracy, the EU referendum and Brexit. We all learned a lot about our political parties and how important democratic rights are.
On Wednesday we examined the 17 Global Goals for sustainable development. We were surprised to hear about some of the terrible conditions in which people are still living, but were pleased with the global targets we are all aiming to achieve. We each took a goal, researched it and presented our findings to the class.
Thursday's learning has involved considering the journey of a refugee.
Some quotes from us from the week:
'It's put a new eye to areas.'
'This week has been great fun- we have learned a lot about ourselves and how we fit into everything.'
'I understand that we are a democracy in our school. The Children's Committee represent our views.'
Friday's learning has involved a wonderful chance to deepen our thinking with a philosophy session. We used the stimulus of the beautifully illustrated book, 'The Teacup'.
We then joined our reception and nursery class buddies to plant our own seed in our own teacups. Please see the photographs below.
