WWII Day in the Kestrels

Date: 20th Apr 2017 @ 11:36am

As we have been learning about WWII,  today we took part in a day fully immersing ourselves in the era. The morning began with us creating our own refugee stories. Mark Harnden from Get outside the Classroom then joined us to lead a session involving us creating our own play equipment / shelters; great fun was had by all. The session culminated with us cooking and eating our own bread over an open fire.

The afternoon was also very exciting and interactive. Mr M. Pearson, a refugee during WWII, joined us for a really informative and engaging session sharing his experiences and memorabilia. The most shocking recount was of a bomb hitting his home and his mother dashing off to the air raid shelter leaving her 3 week old baby behind. Amazingly, the baby survived despite a shard of glass piercing her skull.
